Birding Tour

Highlights:
Marivale * Kruger National Park * Nylsvlei * Pilanesberg * Mkuze * St Lucia * Pelagic (Cape Town)

Join us on our 10+ day birding tour of SA, hoping to find over 250 bird species. Our vast diversity of habitat that occurs in SA, such as bush, mountain, lakes, savannah and sea, offer the best chances of sightings within a relatively short space of time.

Our tour takes you through several of our provinces, including Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North-West and Kwa-Zulu Natal. Many endemics are found en route. We consider ourselves as bird enthusiasts, and "we are" full of enthusiasm, patience and pride. Pride in our tours and in the beauty of our country, especially in our feathered friends with their majestic colourings and never ending songs. Some of the birds that you may see all year round, include the Lilac-Breasted Roller, Ground Hornbill, Woodland Kingfisher, African Hoopoe, Emerald-Spotted Dove, Olive Thrush, Black-Collared Barbet and Blue Waxbill.

Our first stop is rich in wetland birds. Close viewing from the vehicle and from various hides makes spotting and identification, whether you are a beginner or a relatively inexperienced birder, an absolute breeze. We then drive to Mpumalanga, with its wonderful panoramic views, entering the Lowveld and the world famous Kruger National Park. The Kruger Park offers you the best variety of birding in SA all year round. In the park we meander along the Sabie River rich with numerous species, such as Kingfishers, Herons, Finches and Cisticolas, waiting to be identified. Enjoy a night drive and learn about our owls, nightjars, and "thick-knees".

We depart from The Kruger Park and journey on to one of our Ramsar Sites - Nylsvley, known for its water birds, where we have splendid opportunities for viewing from the various hides. Enjoy the splendours of the Waterberg, before entering the North West Province and its magnificent Game Reserve within an extinct volcano. Here you will be awakened with a melodious chorus of singers welcoming the new day. See the brightly coloured Crimson Boubou, and enjoy the antics of the Plovers and African Guinea Fowl inside the campsite.

From Johannesburg a quick flight to St. Lucia again brings you into contact with new bird species. From the launch on the St. Lucia Estuary spot the Woodland Kingfisher, the Purple Heron, and hear the call of the African Fish Eagle. Relax with the warmth and hospitality of our team at St. Lucia. Our guides will take you to Mkuze Game Reserve and the Fig Forest, amongst other attractions. Here your tour ends returning from St. Lucia to Johannesburg, unless you decide to include our Cape tour on your itinerary. If you do then we strongly recommend a pelagic trip off the Cape coast.
